The boys from Cub Scout Pack 145 of Durham recently made a trip to Battleship Cove, in Fall River, Mass., to explore the world’s largest collection of historic naval ships. After touring the battleship Massachusetts, and destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., submarine Lionfish, PT boats 617 and 796, and the Russian missile corvette Hiddensee, the scouts, their parents, siblings and adult leaders spent the night of July 28 on board the Massachusetts.
Battleship Cove’s “Nautical Nights” program included a knot-tying class, storyteller, living history presenter, movies and Morse Code class. The trip has enabled the scouts to better understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by veterans of all military branches in all wars.
Cub Scouts is for boys in grades 1-5 (or ages 7-10). Those interested in learning more about the Durham Cub Scout pack are invited to attend an informational night for boys with their parent/guardian Thursday, Sept. 13, 6:30 p.m., at the Durham Amvets Hall, or contact durhampack145@yahoo.com.
Elias Thomas, Alex Helie, Jackson Carr and Liam Love, all of Durham, joined the rest of Durham Cub Scout Pack 145 on an overnight trip to Battleship Cove in Fall River, Mass. last month.
