DURHAM– The Durham Historical Society will hold its sixth annual quilt and hooked rug show and bake sale on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Union Church-Old Durham Town Hall, Route 136, in Durham.

All are welcome to view quilts and hooked rugs by local crafters. There will be homemade baked beans and brown bread available for takeout, along with pies, breads, cookies and fudge.

Admission is free and donations will be accepted.

Proceeds benefit the Durham Historical Society Restoration Fund to repair and preserve the Union Church-Old Durham Town Hall, which was built in 1835 by local Baptist, Methodist and Congregationalists – hence the name Union Church.

Anyone interested in displaying quilts or hooked rugs can contact Rita Merrill at 319-5866 or Margaret Wentworth at 725-6935.

The historical society meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., with meetings in the warmer months held in the Union Church/old Town Hall. Because the Union Church has no heat, the society meets at the Eureka Community Center in the winter. Anyone wishing to join the historical society can email Merrill at rls826@gwi.net or come to the group’s next meeting in September.
