SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The University of New England women’s soccer team has been picked to finish second out of the 10 institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) preseason poll.
On the squad is freshman forward Tori Field of Woolwich.
Endicott was tabbed as the favorite to win the league, garnering four firstplace votes and totaling 91 points. In the next spot is UNE (86 points, one first-place vote), Roger Williams (83 points, four first-place votes) and Salve Regina (78 points, one first-place vote) landed in the third and fourth positions.
The Nor’easters posted an unbeaten mark of 8-0-1 in last year’s run of CCC play, and secured the regular-season crown. UNE fell to Western New England in the conference quarterfinals on penalty kicks, and, after dropping another penalty kicks decision to Worcester State in the ECAC New England quarters, Big Blue logged an overall record of 12-2-4.
UNE is scheduled to start CCC games on Sept. 15 at Western NE.
