‘Paws for a Cause’ ?in Freeport
The Coastal Humane Society will be holding its “Paws for a Cause” charity dog walk on Saturday, Aug. 25, at L.L. Bean in Freeport starting at 10 a.m. Sign-in for the event begins at 9:30 a.m. The walk will be followed by demonstrations, raffles, vendors and prizes. Dog contests will include “Best Kisser,” “Best Barker,” “Best Dressed,” “Best Tail-Wagger” and owner/pet look-a-like. The minimum donation for this event is $25.

Freeport cable TV 3 ?is back
After being off the air for approximately four weeks, Freeport cable TV 3 is broadcasting again. The problem was reported as an audio control circuit in the server that needed to be sent back to the manufacturer.
The station is once again airing community billboards and public service announcements.
Winslow Park concerts rescheduled
Because of inclement weather, Winslow Park is extending its Thursday night concert series on Aug. 23 with Not to Shaap, originally scheduled to play at the park on Aug. 16. On Aug. 30, music fans can see the Delta Knights show that was originally scheduled for July 26. Both shows begin at 6:30 p.m. Entry fees to the park are $2 for Freeport residents, $3 for non-residents, season pass holders and campers attend for free. Freeport Community Library hours
The Freeport Community Library offers its visitors wireless Internet access, story time for toddlers, monthly art exhibits, inter-library loans, Freeport history and genealogy research. Summer library hours are: Mondays and Wednesdays 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Fridays 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Celebrate Freeport’s mercantile past
The Freeport Historical Society is presenting “Buttons, Rum & Rakes,” an exhibit celebrating Freeport’s mercantile past. The exhibit runs through March 2, 2013. Coming to the Freeport Factory Stage
“Degrees of Incarceration”, a documentary by Amahi Bishara and Nidal Al-Azraq that tells the story of a Palestinian community responding to the crisis of political imprisonment in Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, is coming to the Freeport Factory Stage. “Degrees of Incarceration” will be seen on Thursday Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12, seniors, students and Maine Voices for Palestinian Rights members are $6.
Also coming to the Freeport Factory Stage is “Stranger Closer” a 30-minute solo performance reflecting on family history as it relates to Israel and Palestine. Written and performed by Emmy Raviv, “Stranger Closer” uses poetry and cardboard installation. A writer and panel discussion will follow the performance. Shows are Friday Aug. 24 and Saturday Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. Prices for the production are pay-what-you-can with suggested donations from $5 to $20.

Circuit breaker applications available
The Maine residents property tax and rent refund “Circuit Breaker” program is now accepting applications for property tax assessed and rent paid during 2011. Applications are available at the Freeport Town Office. The town also provides assistance in filling out applications.
Residents can get assistance calling General Assistance Administrator Johanna Hanselman at 865-4743, ext. 210 to schedule an appointment. Online applications and information are available at www.maine.gov/revenue/netfile/gateweay2.htm.
Fireworks reminder
The town of Freeport reminds residents that the purchase and display of consumer fireworks is prohibited. Only commercial displays licensed by the Maine Commission of Public Safety are allowed.
