OLD ORCHARD BEACH— While the goal of a playoff berth was not reached by the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide, the team did end the home part of their schedule on a high note Wednesday afternoon. The Tide (23-29) banged out 17 hits en route to an 11-4 victory over the Seacoast Mavericks (20-32) in the final home game of the season at The Ballpark.

A day after scoring nine runs in a win against Martha’s Vineyard, the bottom of the Tide order got things rolling in the bottom of the third. Brett Flutie reached on an error to lead off the inning, and moved to third on Tito Lluberes’ double down the third base line. Sam Balzano drove in Flutie on an RBI single that tied the game at 1-1, after Seacoast scored in the first. Two batters later, Jason Vosler singled to center to drive home Lluberes. Matt Verrier followed with a sacrifice fly to right to give the Raging Tide a 3-1 lead.

The Tide scored three more runs in the fourth inning, and again it started with Flutie and Lluberes. After Seacoast starter Kevin Mayone got two quick outs, Flutie reached on an infield single to the shortstop. Lluberes then singled to right to put Flutie into scoring position. Balzano drove them both home with a triple to right-center. After Michael Cleary was hit by a pitch, Vosler singled to right to bring home Balzano.

Vosler finished the day with four singles and two RBIs. The Tide shortstop has been on a roll offensively to finish out the season.

“I don’t know what’s going on, a hot streak at the end here,” said Vosler. “It was definitely a good day. Good day for the Tide, too. A good win.”

The Tide pounced again in the fifth inning, starting off the inning with three consecutive hits. Boston Langley and Sam Canales had back-to-back singles before Nick Lancisi drove them both in with a double to right-center. Lancisi got greedy and was called out at third on the play, trying to stretch the hit into a triple. That started the end of the rally, as Flutie and Lluberes grounded out and flew out, respectively to end the inning.

The Mavericks looked to get a hint of a comeback started in the top of the seventh, as Dillon Ryan worked his second inning of relief for the Tide. Ryan gave up four straight singles to start the inning, leading to two runs. He got out of the jam with a pop up to Lluberes and a double-play on a grounder to the second baseman.

The Tide one-upped Seacoast in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to pull away again. Langley and Canales led off with singles before Lancisi struck out. Langley scored when Flutie hit a grounder between the legs of shortstop Spencer Marentette. Lluberes then drove Canales home with a double, and Balzano brought in Flutie with an infield single. Cleary ended the rally by grounding into a double play.

Five Tide hitters had multiple-hit games, led by Vosler with four. Verrier was the only starter not to reach base, but he did drive in a run. It was as balanced an offensive attack for the Tide as you can get.

“I don’t what it is, we’ve been taking a better approach in (batting practice). Everybody’s been going the other way, so I think it’s been helping us a lot staying back on the ball. It’s been awesome,” Langley said about the offensive outburst. “I don’t where this was the whole season, but it’s been working lately. So we’ll take it.”

The Raging Tide finish its home season at 15-14. The Tide’s season finale is tonight in Brockton, Mass. as they take on the Rox.
