AKRON, Ohio – August continued to be a hot month for the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday.

The Sea Dogs (54-62) won their fifth game in a row, topping the host Akron Aeros 3-1 at Canal Park. The game was the first of a three-game series between the clubs and the first of a six-game road trip for Portland.

The Sea Dogs outhit the Aeros 8-4 and did their scoring early with two runs in the first inning and a solo home run from Marquez Smith in the third.

Juan Diaz scored the lone run for Akron (67-47) in the second after a leadoff double.

Pitcher Mike MacDonald earned the win on the mound for Portland. Right-hander Michael Olmsted pitched the ninth for the save.
