The newest acquisition at Windham Historical Society is this antique horse-drawn wooden hay rake. Some of us remember when this was in common use in town. Invented in the mid-1800s, this piece of farm equipment was a big improvement over what had been used for centuries – manpower! Some sources say using this “modern” method made gathering hay eight times more efficient. Donated by Sue and Bill Hager, the old hay rake joins other pieces of farm equipment and tools to be used in the Society’s proposed living history center, the Village Green in Windham Center.
