Sanford Mainers out of the NECBL playoffs after loss to Newport Gulls in Rhode Island

Charlie White went 4 for 6 with two RBI and three runs scored, and Austin Slater hit a pair of home runs to pace an 18-hit offense for the Newport Gulls, who eliminated the Sanford Mainers with an 18-1 victory in Game 3 of their opening-round best-of-three series Sunday at Rhode Island.

Jose Torralba had a pair of hits and drove in the run for Sanford with a single in the top of the seventh inning.

GOLF

PGA: J.J. Henry won the Reno-Tahoe Open for his second PGA Tour title, beating Alexandre Rocha of Brazil by a point in the modified Stableford event at Reno, Nev.

Henry finished with 43 points. Players received eight points for double eagle, five for eagle, two for birdie and zero for par. They were docked a point for bogey and three points for anything worse.

Andres Romero of Argentina finished third with 37 points.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Bernhard Langer rallied to win the 3M Championship for the second time in four years, shooting a 10-under 62 to overcome a six-stroke deficit at Blaine, Minn.

The 54-year-old German finished at 18-under 198 at the TPC Twin Cities for his 15th Champions Tour title.

David Peoples, three strokes ahead entering the final round, shot a 70 to finish second, two shots behind.

Kenny Perry and Olin Browne tied for third at 15 under.

COLLEGES

TCU: Football coach Gary Patterson said starting quarterback Casey Pachall won’t face team discipline after the junior admitted to police in February that he used marijuana and failed a drug test.

Patterson said Pachall completed drug and alcohol counseling mandated by the university and no suspension will be handed down.

SOCCER

MLS: Columbus Crew midfielder Kirk Urso died at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, and no cause of death has been determined, a county coroner said. Urso, 22, was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. — an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Police were reportedly called to a bar in the city at about 12:50 a.m. and Urso was taken from there to the hospital.

AUTO RACING

INDYCAR: Scott Dixon took the lead by passing Will Power in pit row on the 57th lap and then held on to capture his fourth title in the last six years at Mid-Ohio in Lexington, Ohio. Power, who ended up second, took over the points lead from Ryan Hunter-Reay, who finished 24th.

Rookie Simon Pagenaud hung on for third place.
