Man burned in explosion of charter vessel’s stove
One person was injured in a butane stove explosion aboard a charter fishing vessel in Maine.
Coast Guard crews were notified just before 10 a.m. Saturday that a passenger aboard the charter vessel Dawg Daze had been burned in the explosion and that the boat was headed back to port.
A rescue boat carrying Coast Guard personnel and three Portland firefighters met the charter vessel about seven miles off the coast of Portland and brought the 35-year-old man to shore, where he was then taken to Maine Medical Center.
The fishing boat is based in Harpswell. The victim’s name had not been released.

Partnership will give deals on courses to some workers
Thomas College and the Maine Development Foundation are announcing a partnership that will provide workers in some Maine businesses with special rates to apply to the Waterville school and discounts for its courses.
For all current employees of more than 140 participating businesses, the Thomas College Graduate and Continuing Education Division will waive all application fees, provide 10 percent course discounts, and provide the first course free of charge.
Discounts apply to part-time bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, not accelerated or full-time programs.
The partnership is being realized through a Maine Development Foundation program that helps Maine employers promote educational and career advancement opportunities for their employees.

Police arrest three people in alleged prostitution ring
New Hampshire police made three arrests in what they believe is a prostitution ring that may extend from Manchester to Portland, Maine.
The investigation began with complaints about men arriving at a Portsmouth apartment complex in taxis and being escorted to a particular apartment by different women for short periods of time.
Jim Parra, 22, of Kittery and Brooke Parent, 21, of Manchester were each charged with prostitution. The apartment’s owner, Alexander Marino, 38, was charged for allegedly allowing his apartment to be used for prostitution.
