OLD ORCHARD BEACH – After seven one-sided games and a quick pitchers’ duel, the American Legion baseball state tournament finally got an exciting game Friday.

In the span of one inning, Westbrook was nearly done, in the driver’s seat, then in an impossible hole.

Westbrook tied the score in the bottom of the ninth, but Pastime Club of Lewiston scored four in the 10th for a 7-3 victory in an elimination game at The Ballpark.

Westbrook led 2-1 before Lewiston scored two in the seventh for a 3-2 lead. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Joe Quinlan was hit by a pitch and scored on a Zach Bean double to make it 3-3.

Kyle Heath was hit by a pitch, and Sam Stauble was intentionally walked.

With Pastime using a five-man infield, pitcher Joe Sullivan got a popout for the second out before everyone returned to their normal positions and Sullivan ended the inning with a strikeout.

“We were actually going to squeeze with Heath on the second pitch, but he got hit on the first pitch,” Westbrook Coach Greg Souza said. “Then they walked Stauble and it kind of takes the squeeze away. We gave it our best shot.”

Ethan Nash, who threw the first nine innings, came back out for the top of the 10th. Nash was charged will all four runs in the inning but also needed some more help.

After Luke Cote led off with a single and stole second, Sullivan got a bunt single when no one covered first. Mekae Hyde followed with a single and reached third when it went through an outfielder, and Corbin Hyde got a triple on a fly ball that should have been caught.
