TOPSHAM
The cause of a fire that badly damaged a home at 683 River Road Tuesday night has officially been ruled “undetermined,” according to Topsham Fire Chief Brian Stockdale.
Fire investigators “certainly believe it’s accidental,” Stockdale said. While they believe they have a good idea of what sparked the fire, there are too many possibilities, the fire chief said Wednesday afternoon. They determined the fire did start in the living room, which sustained heavy fire damage. Throughout the rest of the home, there was high heat and smoke damage.
The home belongs to John Houston, who was not home at the time the fire began.
Firefighters from Topsham rushed to the structure fire at 6:58 p.m. and were aided on scene by Brunswick, Lisbon, Freeport and West Bath fire departments.
Stockdale said Bowdoin and Bowdoinham fire departments provided station coverage.
