BRUNSWICK
Army officials confirmed Wednesday that Army Capt. David C. Haas, 29, of Brunswick died after he was hit by a bus while crossing a street in Seoul, South Korea.
Officials told the newspaper Stars and Stripes, which covers the military, that Haas was crossing a busy Seoul street with a friend around 11:45 p.m. last Friday night when Haas was struck.
A South Korean traffic investigator told Stars and Stripes that neither Haas nor the driver of the bus were intoxicated but that the driver is under investigation for professional negligence.
Haas, who served two tours in Iraq, was serving with the 403rd Field Support Brigade stationed in Korea and graduated from the University of Richmond in 2005 with a degree in history and from Brunswick High School in 2001.
According to an obituary published today in The Times Record (page A7), visiting hours will be held locally for Haas on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brunswick High School gymnasium and funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, at 132 McKeen St.
Haas will then be remembered with full military honors during his interment at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
