BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox traded outfielder Scott Podsednik and right-hander Matt Albers to the Arizona Diamondbacks for left-hander Craig Breslow on Tuesday.

Podsednik, 26, hit .387 with a homer and seven RBI for Boston this season after being traded for cash May 11 from the Phillies. He went on the disabled list with a strained left groin on May 11 and played for Triple-A Pawtucket after returning.

Albers, 29, played for Houston and Baltimore before joining the Red Sox in 2011. He was 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA in 40 appearances for the Red Sox this season and has the second-most relief appearances of an inning or more since 2008 with 94.

Breslow, 31, was 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 40 appearances for the Diamondbacks this season after signing a one-year deal in the offseason. He’s a native of Trumbull, Conn., played at Yale and pitched for the Red Sox in 2006.

RED SOX-INDIANS: Boston acquired right-handed knuckleballer Steven Wright from Cleveland for first baseman Lars Anderson.

Wright, 27, was 9-6 with a 2.49 ERA at Double-A Akron. He has not pitched in the majors. In six minor league seasons, he is 38-33 with a 3.95 ERA. He is holding opponents to a .207 batting average this year, best in the Eastern League.

RANGERS-CUBS: Texas obtained Ryan Dempster from Chicago in a move to fortify its rotation for the stretch run.

Texas sent minor league infielder Christian Villanueva and pitcher Kyle Hendricks to Chicago.

PHILLIES-DODGERS: Philadelphia traded center fielder Shane Victorino to Los Angeles for two pitchers.

The Phillies got relief pitcher Josh Lindblom and minor league pitcher Ethan Martin for the 31-year-old Victorino, who is in the final year of a contract.

YANKEES-PIRATES: New York obtained third baseman Casey McGehee from Pittsburgh for reliever Chad Qualls, giving it a right-handed batter to plug in while Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira recuperate from hand injuries.

McGehee, 29, is hitting .230 with eight homers and 35 RBI in almost 300 plate appearances. Qualls, 33, was acquired July 1 by New York from Philadelphia and pitched in eight games.

PHILLIES-GIANTS: Philadelphia traded right fielder Hunter Pence to San Francisco for three players.

The last-place Phillies got outfielder Nate Schierholtz, minor league catcher Tommy Joseph and minor league right-handed pitcher Seth Rosin.

PIRATES-MARLINS: Pittsburgh acquired first baseman Gaby Sanchez and minor league pitcher Kyle Kaminska from Miami for minor league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and a 2013 draft pick.

REDS-ROYALS: Unable to upgrade its everyday lineup, Cincinnati instead strengthened the back end of its bullpen by acquiring closer Jonathan Broxton from Kansas City for a pair of minor league pitchers.

CARDINALS-MARLINS: St. Louis acquired bullpen help, getting right-hander Edward Mujica from Miami for a 2010 first-round pick, Zack Cox.

RANGERS: Pitcher Neftali Feliz needs Tommy John surgery to repair a tear in his right elbow and likely will be sidelined until next summer.

ROCKIES: Colorado activated infielder Jonathan Herrera from the 15-day disabled list.

BRAVES: Atlanta placed right-hander Tommy Hanson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower back.

PADRES: San Diego put catcher Yasmani Grandal on the 15-day disabled list, a day after he strained muscles on a big swing.

NATIONALS: Washington reinstated infielder Chad Tracy from the disabled list and optioned outfielder Corey Brown to Triple-A Syracuse.

YANKEES: First baseman Mark Teixeira had a cortisone injection in his left wrist, a day after hurting it trying to make a diving stop.
