WESTBROOK – Westbrook Maroon finished the regular season of the boys of summer baseball league with a split week.
Westbrook Maroon took on Westbrook Blue on July 23 and defeated a tough blue team 11-4 . Westbrook Maroon jumped out early and dominated the game behind the pitching of Austin Fecteau, who needed only 37 pitches through three innings while striking out seven. Seamus Dillon and Bronson Damon each struck out two batters in an inning pitched by each. Matthew Eugley and Christopher Kullman each had three hits for Maroon and Kullman and Fecteau each having 3 RBI.
The bright spots for Westbrook Blue were Avery Macwhinne, with two hits, and Mathhew Weymouth with an outstanding catch.
Westbrook Maroon next went to play Bayside Blue. Westbrook came out fast with four runs in the first, just to be topped by Blue with five runs, including a grand slam by Trevon Fletcher.
The grand slam took the air out of Maroon but the boys stayed and fought hard. Seamus Dillon struck out six batters in two innings for Maroon, but this game was dominated by Fletcher who had seven RBI and struck out all nine batters he faced.
Austin Fecteau again pitched well for Maroon. In the fifth inning, Fletcher came up with the basses loaded and was challenged by Fecteau. Fletcher popped up to third base for an unassisted double play by Matthew Eugley. Bayside Blue ends the season seven wins and one tie while Maroon ends the season at 3-5.
