Gray-New Gloucester wins 4-0 in regional tourney
Katelyn Tucker surrendered just four hits and two walks and also singled and scored a run during a three-run fifth inning to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 4-0 win Sunday over Waterford, Conn., in pool play at the Senior League Softball Eastern Regional in Worcester, Mass.
Gray-New Gloucester opened the scoring in the first inning when Alex Thompson scored on a fielders choice. During the three-run fifth inning, Taylor Whaley hit a two-run double and Sam Libby added an RBI single.
Libby also made a throw from center field to prevent a runner from scoring in the first inning.
The Maine champions, who are 2-0 in the tournament, will face Providence, R.I., at 11 a.m. Monday.
BASEBALL
FCBL: Aaron Silbar hit an RBI double to lead the North Shore Navigators (23-19) to a 3-1 win over the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (19-25) at Lynn, Mass.
Old Orchard Beach cut the deficit to 2-1 on an RBI single by Dan Fratus in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Sam Balzano.
Nick Lancisi had a pair of hits and Colin Gay added a double for the Raging Tide.
AUTO RACING
FORMULA ONE: Lewis Hamilton won the Hungarian Grand Prix at Budapest, prolonging McLaren’s dominance on the slow and winding Hungaroring circuit.
Hamilton completed the race in 1 hour, 41 minutes, 5.503 seconds — more than a second ahead of Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen. Romain Grosjean, also of Lotus, was third. It was McLaren’s sixth win on the track in eight years.
SOCCER
MLS: Jack McInerney scored in the 90th minute to give the Philadelphia Union a 2-1 won over the New England Revolution at Chester, Pa.
Sheanon Williams sent a cross into the box and McInerney finished with a header for the come-from-behind win.
Freddy Adu also scored for the Union (7-10-2), who have won four of their last five games.
Saer Sene gave the Revolution (6-10-5) a 1-0 lead with a 25-yard strike in the 12th minute — his team-high ninth goal.
That lead held until McInerney was taken down in the box and Adu responded with a penalty kick in the 59th minute.
TENNIS
FARMERS CLASSIC: American Sam Querrey won the event for the third time in four years, needing just 51 minutes to rout Lithuania’s Ricardas Berankis 6-0, 6-2 at Los Angeles.
Querrey, the No. 2 seed, won the tournament in 2009 and 2010, then missed the event missed last year because of a right elbow injury.
