The top four finishers in last Sunday night’s TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway will go at again Saturday night in the American Canadian Tour’s 150-lap race for Late Models at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough.

Last Sunday, Joey Polewar- czyk Jr. of Hudson, N.H., finished one second ahead of veteran Jeff Taylor of Farmington to win the 39th running of the 250-lap race.

Both of those drivers will race at Beech Ridge, as will Austin Theriault, an 18-year-old driver from Fort Kent who finished third in the 250, and the current ACT points leader, Wayne Helliwell of Dover, N.H., who was the fourth-place finisher at Oxford Plains.

Taylor, who is not a regular on the ACT tour, decided Friday afternoon that he will run at Beech Ridge.

“Honestly, we just took the car off the trailer,” he said during a telephone interview. “We’re probably going to just turn it around maintenance-wise and adapt once we get there.”

A year ago, Taylor won the event for only his second career victory at the Scarborough track.

Polewarczyk, who won the race in 2010, had mechanical problems during last summer’s event.

“Last year we were doing well,” he said. “We got to second early in the race, but a muffler fell off and I had to pit on the green (flag) and lost some laps.”

None of the ACT drivers earned a point in the standings while competing in the 250.

In the last ACT event, Helliwell, who has finished in the top five in four of his five races this season, finished first and Polewarzyk was second June 23 in a 150-lap race at White Mountain Motor Sports Park in Woodstock, Vt.

DESPITE HIS SUCCESS on the Pro All-Star Series, Trevor Sanborn of East Parsonsfield doesn’t intend to alter his racing plans for the summer.

When he returned to Maine in June after spending six months in North Carolina on the staff of the Racing 101 driver development program, Sanborn said he intended to race in a select number of PASS North events because he didn’t have the financial resources to run his Super Late Model every weekend.

Last Saturday night, Sanborn finished second to veteran driver Cassius Clark of Farmington in a 150-lap PASS North event at Oxford Plains Speedway. On July 7, in his first race since his return to Maine, he finished second to Brent Dragon of Vermont in a PASS North 150-lap race at Beech Ridge.

What’s the reason for his success?

“I just learned a lot down south,” Sanborn said. “I took it in and kind of adapted. The chassis setup. The shocks. I used it to my advantage. We had car enough to win both races, but it wasn’t the right circumstances and we ran out of laps.”

Sanborn picked up $1,800 for last Saturday night’s second-place finish at OPS, but that cash simply helped him recoup some of the money he’s already put into his car this season. He still doesn’t have the money to run it on a weekly basis.

“The only thing I can hope for is maybe someone might want me to race their car because I’m doing well or pick up a sponsor,” he said.

Sanborn intends to run his Super Late Model during the PASS 400 Weekend on Sept. 14-16 at Beech Ridge and at the PASS Fall Finale on Sept. 29-30 at Oxford Plains.

BRADLEY BABB has gotten used to starting near the back of the pack in the Pro Series division races this season at Beech Ridge.

“We’ve been starting near the back of the pack since of the second race of the season,” he said.

At Beech Ridge, the last two slots on the starting grid in the 40-lap Pro Series feature are reserved for the previous week’s winner and the division’s points leader.

Babb, a 19-year-old driver from Windham, has remained atop the division for the past two months. He usually has to move past 20 cars to get to the front.

“It’s hard to pass so many cars in such a short race,” he said. “Everybody stays side by side. By the time you can go somewhere the race is half over.”

Despite the handicap at the start of the race, Babb has managed to finish third twice.

“It has taught me a lot of patience,” he said. “I just have to keep the car on the track and finish in front of as many cars as I can.”

In addition to the ACT race, weekly features in the Pro Series, Sports, Wildcat and Roadrunner divisions also are scheduled for Saturday night at Beech Ridge.
