BASEBALL

Sea Dogs and Mets postponed, will play a doubleheader today at Binghamton

Thunderstorms and high winds that rolled through Binghamton, N.Y., less than two hours before game time wiped out Thursday’s Eastern League game between the Portland Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader that will start at 5:35 p.m. today. The Sea Dogs are expected to start Drake Britton (2-3, 4.75) and Mike MacDonald (1-0, 4.50). Binghamton’s scheduled starters are Cory Mazzoni (3-3, 3.50) and Darin Gorski (5-5, 4.13).

HOCKEY

NHL: Free-agent forward Alexander Semin agreed to terms with the Carolina Hurricanes on a one-year contract worth $7 million. Semin, 28, ranked second on the Washington Capitals last season with 21 goals, 33 assists and 54 points.

The Flyers signed forward Jakub Voracek to a four-year contract worth $17 million. Voracek came to Philadelphia last season in the deal that sent forward Jeff Carter to Columbus, and had 18 goals and 31 assists.

The NHL Players Association made presentations to owners on player pensions, length of training camp and ice conditions as talks between the union and the NHL concluded for the week.

The players say they are waiting for specific financial information from the owners before submitting a counterproposal.

The sides agreed to continue negotiations toward a new collective bargaining agreement on Monday in New York at the league offices. The current agreement ends on Sept. 15. The season is slated to begin on Oct. 11.

BASKETBALL

NBA: The Los Angeles Clippers and free agent Ronny Turiaf agreed to a one-year, veteran’s minimum contract worth $1.146 million, according to NBA executives.

The NBA season will begin Oct. 30 with a tripleheader that includes the Miami Heat beginning their title defense at home against the Boston Celtics.

GOLF

SENIOR BRITISH OPEN: Bernhard Langer shot a 6-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead over Mark McNulty after the first round of the Senior British Open at Turnberry, Scotland. Tom Lehman, Michael Allen, David Frost, Jay Don Blake, Dick Mast and Chien Soon Lu shot 66.

LPGA: Stacy Lewis of the United States made seven consecutive birdies and tied the Evian Masters record with a 9-under 63 in the opening round at Evian-les-Bains, France. Nine total birdies helped Lewis take a two-shot lead over Hee Young Park of South Korea.

CANADIAN OPEN: Scott Piercy shot an 8-under 62 in the first round of Canadian Open at Ancaster, Ontario. Greg Owen and William McGirt were a stroke back, and Robert Garrigus had a 64.

FOOTBALL

UFL: The United Football League will return for a fourth season, with CBS Sports Network agreeing to televise games on Wednesdays and Fridays over an eight-week season starting Sept. 19.
