Dog Days
They are certainly here, those dog days of summer. Luckily, we have all of these wonderful lakes to jump into to help us stay cool. Here in Naples, the ice cream shops are busy but I am glad to see the lakes busy too with kids swimming and playing. In a blink of an eye it will be over, so enjoy.
Causeway Update
I saw the Causeway Crew paving in the sidewalk today a bit past Merced’s Restaurant. They are also busy continuing to build the seawall, laying more boardwalk, and taking down the old bridge. Everything is going according to schedule. I love seeing people sitting on those beautiful new benches enjoying the views. That is what the causeway is all about.
Naples Library
Don’t miss the yard sale this weekend to benefit the Naples Public Library at the Naples Town Gym from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you can’t make that, the house tour promises to be a great event. If you need a last-minute hostess gift, don’t hesitate to check out the mini art sale going on at the Library this weekend also.
Looking for Employment?
The Naples Library is also hosting a Successful Job Search Workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 1 to 4 p.m. Are you tired of submitting resumes online and getting no results? At the workshop you will learn the value of networking and how to use it to open doors of opportunity, using the latest social media in building connections and you will also explore the Learning Express Library to help you with job searching. The latest interviewing skills and tactics as well as what transferable skills are and how to display them on your resume will also be covered in this comprehensive training class. Registration required. Call the Library at 693-6841.
What to do in Naples in the Summer
Thankfully, the options have been expanding. We all know about the beach, the library, the restaurants. The Songo River Queen II is top-notch for a cool breeze on a warm evening. Of course, the Jet Ski rental and bike boats on the causeway look fun, too. But what else is there to do in the summertime? Did you know about the Paddleboard Yoga class that is being held each Wednesday morning on Long Lake? (Contact Kirsten at SunSports on the Causeway, FMI at 693-3867 or sunsportsme@hotmail.com.)
The American Legion in Naples hosts open activities on Monday and Thursday nights. On Monday, you can play some pool and on Thursday nights there are open dart games.
On Sunday nights you won’t want to miss those lovely free Village Green Concert at 6 p.m. On Sunday, Aug. 5, Jose Duddy, a well-known Fryeburg Fair performer will be on hand, and check out Terry Swett on Aug. 12.
Have you ever been on a pirate ship? Here’s your chance! Moose Landing Marina is renting out the coolest pirate ship. Now you can take friends and family on a fun-filled “three hour tour” (or less!) Contact Jane at the marina FMI at 693-6264.
If you want that on-the-boat experience but are afraid to actually leave the dock, have I got the event for you. On Wednesday nights until mid-August you can board the Songo River Queen at 7 p.m. and do some Dockside Zumba. The cost is $5 to get on, the breeze, views and dancing cannot be beat. Make some friends, have some fun, summer is short. If you actually want to cruise gorgeous Long Lake while doing Zumba, have no fear because the second of two Zumba cruises is coming up on Friday, Aug. 3 aboard the Queen. Visit www.songoriverqueen.net FMI.
Oldies Return
The new causeway is the place to celebrate the past this weekend. At 6:30 p.m. stroll along the causeway and enjoy Oldies tunes while you check out classic automobiles from the Pleasant Mountain Obsolete Auto Club. The Songo River Queen will set sail for the Lion’s Fifties Cruise at 7:30 p.m. Both events are open to the public and take place this Saturday, July 28.
Naples Recreation
If you are finding your youngsters bored and you are out of ideas on how to entertain them, why not try Naples Recreation Camp. There they can swim, play, go to Fun Town/Splash Town in Saco, and make some new friends. The beauty of the Rec Program is you can still sign your child up. Just call director Harvey Price Jr. at 698-6364 to inquire. The program runs until mid-August.
