BRUNSWICK
On Monday, the Brunswick Town Council will consider moving ahead with an effort to connect a bicycle and pedestrian path in Brunswick to trails in Bath.
Councilors are set to consider giving the town’s Parks and Recreation Department permission to apply for a state grant, alongside the city of Bath and the town of West Bath, to connect the Brunswick trail — ending at Grover Lane — to the western end of a path along Congress Street in Bath.
According to a memo from Tom Farrell, Brunswick’s parks and recreation director, the grant would not require a local match if the project is determined to be a “trail of statewide significance.”
A draft letter for the council to consider signing Monday states that the trail would “serve as a recreation destination, comprising a significant segment of the 3,000-mile East Coast Greenway,” a bike and pedestrian path spanning from Key West, Fla., to Calais.
The funding would come from the Maine Department of Transportation’s Federal Transportation Enhancements Funding in the fiscal year for 2014-15.
The council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the town council chambers at Brunswick Station, 16 Station Ave.
