SOUTH PORTLAND — Bull Moose recently announced it is going to 11, by opening its 11th location this fall.

According to a news release, the store will be located in the former Blockbuster site at 219 Waterman Drive, in South Portland’s Mill Creek neighborhood. This will be Bull Moose’s ninth store in Maine and its first in South Portland.

Bull Moose plans to expand the building by 50 percent, to 11,000 square feet, to carry a large selection of music, movies, video games, books and other entertainment items.

The renovations will create between 60 to 75 construction jobs, and 15 permanent retail jobs will be established when the store opens in late fall.

“We are psyched to be opening a store in the Mill Creek area,” said Bull Moose founder Brett Wickard. “Both the city of South Portland and the community have been fantastic to work with. We look forward to building a store that is another bright spot and another big draw for that area.”

The South Portland Planning Board approved Bull Moose’s expansion plans at its July 10 meeting.

Bull Moose was started in 1989 in Brunswick by Wickard, a Bowdoin College junior at the time. What began as a makeshift store carrying only a few discs, it is now the largest retailer of new and pre-owned music, movies and video games in Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire.

Presently, all 10 stores are open past midnight every Monday, and patrons can shop at Bull Moose 24 hours a day at www.bullmoose.com.
