Welcome to the first issue of the Tri-Town Weekly, your new hometown newspaper. I hope this paper will be something that you look forward to seeing every week, and I hope that you will contribute to it and help us to grow and improve it along the way.
We are so excited to be part of the communities of Durham, Freeport and Pownal, and we have good reason. We live in a beautiful place that offers the best of everything. From my home in Durham, I can get to the mountains, the ocean, woods, the farms, the ponds, and even the desert in less than 15 minutes driving time. I can choose to have dinner in Freeport, Brunswick, Topsham, Lisbon, Lewiston, Auburn, Yarmouth, Falmouth, and even Portland, in less driving time than it takes to heat up the grill.
The Tri-Town Weekly is joining the Current Publishing family of six other weekly newspapers covering southern Maine. All of our papers, along with our monthly magazine products, can be seen on www.keepmecurrent.com. Each of our publications also has its own Facebook page, and we would appreciate it if you “liked” us and followed our updates – and contributed your own. The Tri-Town Weekly will be direct mailed to every home in Durham, Freeport and Pownal, in addition to being distributed for free at various locations throughout the towns (we’ve included a list in this issue).
Our goal for this paper is to provide local news and information that is pertinent and interesting to folks who live, work and visit these towns. You will have consistent information on town and school events, great feature stories, interesting business updates, calendar items, obituaries, and so much more. Please tell us what you like and what you don’t like. Please get involved by writing letters to our editor, sending us press releases, advertising your businesses or garage sales and giving us feedback. Did you take a great picture at your daughter’s softball game or your parent’s 50th wedding anniversary party? We would love to have you share it with us and your other neighbors.
We’ve included a lot of information and promotional ads in this issue on how you can place a FREE classified ad, submit a letter to the editor, run a legal notice, place an obituary, or send us news/photos. If you need to reach us at any time, here’s how:
Durham resident Mike Higgins, a veteran journalist, is the editor and reporter for the Tri-Town Weekly. Mike can be reached via email at mhiggins@keepmecurrent.com, or by phone at 887-1194.
Longtime media account manager Gail Babick is leading the advertising effort for the Tri-Town Weekly. Gail can be reached at gbabick@keepmecurrent.com or by phone at 887-1190.
You can reach me by emailing lhews@keepmecurrent.com or calling 887-1192.
Thanks for reading. I hope you will look forward to seeing us again next week, and each week thereafter.
