BRUNSWICK — The fifth annual Run for the Sun 5K Road Race will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, rain or shine, from the Brunswick Mall gazebo off Park Row.
Race day registration and number pick-up will begin at 7:30 a.m.
“ This is meant to be a fun event for all ages and levels of competitiveness and is a chance for local businesses and Mid-coast community members to come together to support a worthy cause,” a release from organizers states. “The course is fairly fast and flat: slightly downhill going out and uphill returning.”
All proceeds from the race go to a fund, administered by the Cathance River Education Alliance (CREA), that supports environmental education in Topsham and Brunswick schools.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two male and female finishers in age brackets ranging from younger than 15 years old to older than 70.
The first 100 registrants will receive a free race Tshirt. Register online for $15 at www.active.com/running/ brunswick-me/run-forthe sun-5k-2012.
Registration on the day of the race costs $20.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
