Vets roadtrip
The July get-together of the Southern Maine Squadron of the Sampson Air Force Veterans Association will be Thursday, July 12, in Harpswell, The group will meet at Bellevue By the Sea Bed and Breakfast, 118 Lookout Point Road, Harpswell, around 10:30 a.m. From there they will go to the Dolphin Marina, 515 Basin Point Road, for lunch at noontime.
This is an informal get-together of veterans (and their guests) who went to Sampson Naval Training Center 1942-1945 and Sampson Air Force Base 1950-1956 for training.

Bible B.O.O.T. Camp
From July 9-13, the Bible Believing Baptist Church will be holding their Vacation Bible School from 6-8 p.m. Children ages 4 years through 6th grade are invited to participate in B.O.O.T. Camp – Biblical Outlook and Outreach Training.

For veterans
The American Legion Auxiliary Post 86 in Gray will hold its monthly bean supper at 15 Lewiston Road on Saturday, July 7, from 5 to 6 p.m. On the menu are pea and kidney beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads, pie, coffee and punch.
The meal costs $7 for over 12 years of age; $2.50 for 5 to 12 years old; under 5 free. Proceeds benefit veterans and their families and children in the area. Any questions, call Nancy True at 657-2661 (cell 653-3886) or Legion at 657-4884.
Be dramatic
A Musical Summer Camp featuring “Beauty and the Beast,” starts July 23 in Gray. This three-week summer camp for ages 7-15 will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A before and after care option is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also available are one-week summer camp options including puppetry, storybook and improv.

Beginners’ golf
Spring Meadows Golf Club and Gray Recreation Department are proud to announce a new PGA Junior Golf program. It will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Instruction will cover basic golf fundamentals, rules of the game, golf etiquette, putting, chipping and full swing. The cost is $90 (includes a tee-off gift, T-shirt, professional instruction and final evening BBQ celebration). This golf session is for ages 11 to 17 and is held July 10 to Aug. 7 (five classes). While it is recommended that participants have their own clubs, it’s not mandatory. For more information contact PGA professional Ben Morey at 657-2586.
Free movies
The Gray Public Library, Hancock Street in Gray, will be showing a free movie each Thursday. On July 12, they will be showing “Big Miracle” (PG) and on July19, “Racing Stripe” (G). All are welcome. Please contact the library at 657-4110 or www.gray.lib.me.us for more information.
Raptors and predators
On Saturday, July 7, the Maine Wildlife Park, Route 26 in Gray, will feature Birds Of Wild-Haven. Barbara and Tomm Tomlinson have been offering raptor presentations for two decades. The program’s birds were permanently disabled in accidents in the wild, so cannot be released, but have learned to be wonderful ambassadors for owls, hawks and more.
The following Saturday, July 14, a Predators Of The Night Visit program will be held. Many of Maine’s predators are active primarily at dawn, dusk or in the dead of night. Called “crepuscular” or “nocturnal,” find out how these animals are equipped to do their jobs under the cover of darkness while you wander the park in the dark. Time: 7:30-9:30 p.m. Regular admission fees. (Call office at 657-4977 if raining.) The Nature Store and Snack Shack will be open for snacks and souvenirs.

Summer Rec
Sign ups are now available online for Mad Science Camp’s Spy Academy to be held July 9-13 (9 a.m.- 3 p.m.) for ages 6-12 with a fee of $250.
Become a Mad Science secret spy and take a fascinating journey into the world of detection, forensics and classified information. By the end of this Spy Academy week, you’ll be a ready Mad Science Secret Agent equipped with take-home investigation tools ranging from spy glasses to secret safes. Each day includes several exciting take-home projects that are integrated into this spy science-themed camp.
Also zumba, self-defense training, softball, volleyball, soccer camps, etc., are either in session or starting up soon trough the Gray Recreation Department.

Free lunch
Free summer lunches will be provided for children ages 18 and under Monday through Friday, until Aug. 17. There will be two locations to go to: G-NG High School from 11:30 a.m.-noon or the Liberty Foundation Site on Raymond Road in Gray (across from St. Gregory’s Church) from 12:15-12:45 p.m. All meals must be eaten on-site. Calling Class of 1977
