NAPLES — Falmouth resident William B. Schneider, 22, died early Friday morning in a one-car crash in Naples.

Schneider was a passenger in a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer that struck a tree off Thompson Point Road sometime before 4:20 a.m., according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Blazer, Richard D. Griffin, 51, of Peabody, Mass., suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, and was air-lifted to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, but the cause remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
