WESTBROOK – Westbrook High School Assistant Principal Howard Jack is back to work after he was put paid administrative leave pending the results of an investigation.
On Monday, Westbrook School Superintendent Marc Gousse confirmed that Jack, who was on administrative leave from June 5-20, was back at the school on June 21.
“The investigation has been completed,” he said.
Gousse would not comment specifically on the investigation or any disciplinary action that may have resulted.
Gousse also would not confirm if the leave was in connection with a letter written by Westbrook High School junior Tori Pabst last month, in which she criticized the school, and specifically Jack, for the way her complaints about bullying were handled.
Pabst said she placed her letter, along with copied pages of taunts and harassing posts from social media sites, in Jack’s school mailbox, but got no acknowledgement. She finally took the letter to teachers and then released it to the media, where it got national attention.
In an email, Jack said he would not comment on a ” confidential personnel matter,” but he did add that he was “looking forward to working with (incoming principal Jon) Ross and (new assistant principal Tim) Stebbins this school year.”
“Fact-finding and determination have been reviewed and implemented and a decision has been rendered,” Gousse said. “Specifics regarding any determination specific to this incident are personnel matters, which remain confidential until the appeals period has expired.”
Gousse said the appeals period would expire later this summer. He said the investigation was conducted by the city’s human resource director, Martha Sumner, independent of any member of the school administration.
