MANCHESTER — Three pros are tied for the lead of the 94th Maine Open Golf Championship after Tuesday’s opening round at Augusta Country Club.
Jesse Larson of Mendon, Vt., Jeremiah Shields of Ottawa, Ontario, and Kevin Roy of Syracuse, N.Y., each turned in 2- under-par 68s in the first Maine Open held at Augusta since 1960.
Six other players, including 1981 Maine Open champion Don Robertson of Irving, Texas, and amateurs Jack Wyman of Portland Country
Club and South Freeport, and Peter Wright of Dunegrass in Old Orchard Beach, are a stroke behind the leaders. The others are pros Maki Kobayashi, Jason Parajeckas and Matthew Baker.
The original field of more than 150 players was cut to 104 players, includ.
Among other Mid-coast region golfers qualifying were JJ Harris of Bath (74) and Jordan Jones of Wiscasset (75).
