SOUTH PORTLAND — Friends of Casco Bay is offering a summer professional development workshop for elementary, middle school and informal educators.
The three-day workshop, which starts Monday, incorporates field experiences, children’s books, and current scientific data to explore the marine life and environmental health of Maine’s coastal waters.
Children’s book author Mary Cerullo will lead the course.
The course fee is $150, which includes 40 curriculum activities geared for grades four to six; $150 in books and materials; and a chartered boat trip on Casco Bay.
This workshop takes place on the seaside campus of Southern Maine Community College.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
