June 15-16: Saint Joseph’s College will offer a Lifeguard Training Review course on Friday, June 15, from 5 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Harold Alfond Recreation Center on the Standish campus (both classes must be attended). Participants must have successfully completed an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course within the last four years and must have successfully completed a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer course within the past two years. Proof of prior training is required at the start of the class. Participants must also be able to do: 300-yard swim with 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breast stroke, and 100 yards of either front crawl or breast stroke; 20-yard back-and-forth swim with surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound object from a depth of 7-10 feet, under 1 minute and 40 seconds. Saturday, June 16: Denmark Arts Center in downtown Denmark presents the film, “Welcome to Lee, ME” at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 suggested.

June 19, 21: Creative Explorations pre-school is holding an Alex’s Lemonade Stand cancer fundraiser at 32 Tandberg Trail in North Windham. Price per cup is 50 cents. The lemonade stand, which the pre-schoolers will man, will be open Tuesday, June 19, and Thursday, June 21, from 10-11:30 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Wednesday, June 20: Campfire Grille on Route 302 in Bridgton will give 10 percent of its proceeds from 4 p.m. to closing to support Bridgton’s 4th of July Fireworks, planned for July 3. $6,500 must be raised by the Bridgton Community Center by June 27. No taxpayer funds will be used on this year’s fireworks.

Thursday, June 21: The 2012 Annual New Gloucester Strawberry Festival will be held 6-8 p.m. at the Congregational Vestry, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. Native New Gloucester berries, homemade biscuits and Hodgman’s Frozen Custard will be featured. Other highlights of the festival are the Berry, Berry Good Band, a home-baked goods table and a local history display featuring the proposed new veterans’ memorial. Sponsored by the members and friends of the New Gloucester Historical Society.

Saturday, June 23: Windham Summerfest. Carnival games and rides, fireworks, business expo, food vendors, auto show, and much more at the Windham High School. Events start with a pancake breakfast at 7:30 and end with fireworks at dusk.

June 23: The 42nd annual COLA Maine Lakes Conference takes place at the Diamond Building at Colby College in Waterville from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Keynotes and hands-on workshops with the theme, “The value of our lakes, sustaining Maine lakes.” To register, www.mainecola.org or call 1-855-4-ME-COLA.

June 23-24: Civil War Encampment on the Village green in Windham Center (behind Windham Historical Society’s headquarters). Reenactment demos by 3rd Maine Co. A. Takes place Saturday noon-9 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission pass is $5 for adults, children under 12 free. Family rate (three or more) is $15. Infantry drill, musket firing demo, fife and drum concert, and much more.

June 24: The New England Suzuki Institute and the Maine Suzuki Association will host a Camp Sunshine Benefit Concert at 6:30 p.m., at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish. The concert will raise funds for Camp Sunshine, a free-of-charge retreat on Sebago Lake where children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families can find respite, support, joy and hope. More than 200 violin, viola, cello, guitar and piano students, ages 3 to 18, from all over Maine and the country will perform classical music and folk tunes at the concert. Donations for Camp Sunshine are welcomed at the free concert, which will take place at the Harold Alfond Recreation Center. July 14-15: Chickadee Quilters of Bridgton are having their 33rd annual quilt show on Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15, at Stevens Brook Elementary School on Frances Bell Drive, right off Route 302 in Bridgton. The show will be open both days from 10-4 p.m. and a donation of $5 is appreciated. There will be many quilts on display, a vendor area, a Chinese Auction table, a raffle quilt, a yard sale table and a cafe? with light refreshments. • The 2012 schedule for tours of the historic Scribner’s Sawmill and Homestead has been set for the summer season beginning Saturday, June 2, from 1-4 p.m. and continuing on the first and third Saturdays throughout the summer months ending on Labor Day weekend. When open, there will be demonstration of barrel assembly and shingle making. In the 1849 Scribner Homestead museum, visitors will learn about the five generations of Scribners who operated or worked in the mill and take a peek into the life of the Scribner family. Entrance is free, however, all donations go toward the permitting process to establish a low head dam with a fishway for the operation of the water driven mill machinery. Scribner’s Mill is found one mile south of Bolster’s Mills from Jesse Mill Road just over the bridge in the Town of Harrison.
