BRUNSWICK — In meetings May 31 and June 4, the Town Council — in addition to approving a $54.6 million municipal budget and authorizing the town manager to seek preliminary bids on demolition of the former Times Record building — considered the following items:

Thursday, May 31

— Unanimously approved 11 school budget articles, totaling $33,491,029.

— Unanimously approved a warrant for a school budget validation referendum vote to be held on June 12, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brunswick Junior High School.

— Unanimously approved the town’s 2012-13 budget resolution, totaling $54.6 million, for a property tax rate of $24.97 per $1,000 of valuation, up from $23.68.

— Unanimously approved a supplemental budget resolution appropriating $348,000 from reserves or fund balances to fund capital acquisitions and projects.

— Unanimously approved a supplemental budget resolution appropriating $362,250 from the unassigned balances and general fund to fund capital acquisitions and projects.

Monday, June 4

— Approved adding an executive session to the agenda to discuss an offer made on the town-owned, former Times Record building at 6 Industry Road in an 8-1 vote, with Councilor Suzan Wilson in opposition.

— Unanimously approved acceptance and spending of a $37,750 Homeland Security Grant for the Brunswick Fire Department to replace radio equipment.

— Unanimously approved a special amusement license to allow live entertainment for Maine & Noble LLC, doing business as the Inn at Brunswick Station, J. Hilary Rockett, 4 Noble St.

— Unanimously approved a request by the Brunswick Downtown Association to hold a “First Days of Summer” event, which will include a community-wide yard sale and sidewalk sales, from June 18 to June 23.

— Unanimously approved waiving a $500 fee for BDA “First Days of Summer” event.

— Authorized the town manager to seek bids on demolition of the townowned, former Times Record building at 6 Industry Road by an 8-1 vote, with councilor John Perreault opposed.

— Unanimously approved setting a June 18 public hearing on amendments to the General Assistance Ordinance based on state law changes that would reduce the overall maximum level of assistance by 10 percent.

— Unanimously approved reappointments of Daniel P. Doiron and Sande Updegraph and the appointment of Alison Harris for the town’s Davis Fund Committee; approved the reappointment of Brooks Stoddard to the town’s Village Review Board in an 8-1 vote, with Councilor Suzan Wilson opposed; unanimously approved the appointment of Nicholas D. Livesay to the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals.
