To the editor:
Last week, Mt. Ararat High School hosted its annual senior awards night. At this event, high achieving seniors received public recognition for their academic performance in all of our content subject areas.
In addition, roughly 25 local businesses, social and educational organizations awarded well over $100,000 in scholarships and grants to seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education in the fall.
I commend these organizations for assisting our students in their pursuit of higher education. The financial investment these organizations are making in our young people is an investment in the future of our country and this will pay dividends to us all.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
