JACKMAN — Fifth-seeded Richmond scored five runs in the second inning en route to a 7-4 Western Maine Class D high school baseball quarterfinal win over No. 4 Forest Hills on Wednesday.
Richmond’s fifth straight victory gave the Bobcats a 6- 10 record and a semifinal matchup with top-seeded Buckfield (15-1) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
“We’re playing defense, and not walking people,” said Richmond coach Ryan Gardner, whose team lost twice to the Bucks (11-1 and 12-2) this season. “We can’t give Buckfield extra outs. If we can keep playing like we’ve been, we have a chance.”
Kade Strout earned the mound win, going the distance on seven hits, two strikeouts and zero walks.
At the plate, Gage Myrick was Richmond’s hitting star. He drove in three runs with a double and two singles. Randy Moody, Ben Carver and Peter Lorbeski each singled.
Ethan Levesque came up a double short of the cycle for Forest Hills (9-8). He tripled, singled and ripped a two-run home run in the sixth inning to bring the hosts to within 6- 4. Teammate Ryan Petrin also homered and added a single.
