The ceremony will commemorate Granite Grange 14’s years of service to the community and will include a flag-raising by the Color Guard of the Maine National Guard.
After the ceremony, featuring American and Maine state flags recently flown over the State House in Augusta, Mallett Hall will open with a variety of exhibits showing off local history and artwork.
One exhibit, featuring personal histories and pictures of more than 80 military veterans from Pownal, will honor 12 Pownal residents currently serving in the military, according to event organizer Donna Boyles.
Other exhibitors will include: Pownal Fire and Rescue, Girl and Cub Scouts, Order of Redmen, Pownal School, 4H Sheep Club, 4H Dog Agility, and the Congregational and Methodist churches.
The event, sponsored by the Pownal Building and Grounds Committee, the Pownal Scenic and Historical Society and Pownal Granite Grange 14, also will offer refreshments and music. Attendance is free and open to all.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
