SOUTH PORTLAND – Local boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams shined last Friday during the Cumberland County meet at South Portland High School.

The Scarborough girls dominated the competition as was expected finishing with a total of 134.5 to take home the title.

On the boys’ side, Cheverus High School made a statement, winning the meet with a total of 148. While Cheverus put together its best overall meet of the season, Gorham High School did its best to give the Stags a run for their money. The Rams finished in second with a total of 121 to best rival Scarborough by 24 points (97).

The Rams also had a strong showing on the girls side, finishing in second with a total of 99 points with top performer Sarah Perkins leading the way. Perkins won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.13. Perkins also tied for first in the high jump with Scarborough’s Sarah Rinaldi with a height of 5-0.

Hannah Damron of Windham High School took first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.63.

The Rams also dominated the girls’ 1600-meter race walk as Katie Flanders (7:40.62), Laura Turner (8:36.82) and Kelsey Mitchell (8:39.16) finished in the top three spots.

The Red Storm girls dominated the sprints as Nicole Kirk won both the 100-meter dash (with a time of 12.78) and the 200-meter dash (with a time 25.97), outsprinting South Portland’s Lauren Magnuson in the latter race (27.62).

Scarborough’s Emily Tolman outpaced teammate Karli-an Gilbert in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.85. Tolman also won the long jump with a distance of 16-4.75.

Scarborough’s relay teams of Kirk, Tolman, Gilbert and Ali Pelczar won both the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays with times of 52.46 and 4:10.67, respectively.

Also for Scarborough, Haela Booth-Howe took first in the javelin with a distance of 102-4, and Catherine Bailey won the pole vault with a height of 10-0.

For the host team of South Portland, Nyajock Pan took first in the 800-meter run (2:20.47), besting both Tolman and Gilbert of Scarborough.

Hannah Damron of Windham had a great day, winning the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.63 and the triple jump with a distance of 33-4.5.

On the boys’ side, Cheverus dominated nearly all events. The Gorham Rams, however, had strong showings in the 1600-meter race walk and 1600-meter run.

Gorham’s Jesse Orach (4:34.38) outlasted Scarborough’s Wout Moulin (4:37.08) to take first in the 1600-meter run. Orach also bested Moulin in the 3200-meter run with a time of 955.15 to take first.

Also for Gorham, Nate Bucknell 7:22.61 placed first in the race walk over teammates Alex Thuotte, Ryan Baillargereon and Andrew York.

Kevin Manning of Scarborough won the pole vault with a height of 11-6.

Windham’s Patrick Rice won the 110-meter hurdles (16.21), the 300-meter hurdles (41.16) and the triple jump (41-10). Magnus Lewis of Westbrook took first in the high jump with a height of 6-0 and the long jump with a distance of 20-6.
