BIG DRUG DROP-OFF: Thanks to all who participated in the April 28 Medication Collection held in this area. This is now a nationwide effort and, as reported by U.S. DEA,
Mainers dropped off a total of 19,981 pounds of unused medications during this four-hour collection.
That is astounding but, unfortunately, is probably only a “drop in the bucket” of unused medications floating around. Maine was again No. 1 per capita for the overall collection in the U.S., and also had the largest collection in New England for the second time in a row.
KUDOS to everyone involved. Your efforts make Maine a safer and cleaner state and are much appreciated.
DRIVE SAFE: Hone your driving skills and save money on auto insurance by signing up for an AARP Safe Driver class to be held at People Plus on June 11 at 12:30 p.m. Taught by Merrymeeting Bay TRIAD member/AARP Safe Driver Instructor Joe Hahn, this four-hour class focuses on improving our driving skills as we age.
There are no tests and completion of the course qualifies you for a discount on auto insurance. To register, call Joe Hahn at 751-9364.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
