BRUNSWICK — Alice Elizabeth Prince Groves, 81, passed away peacefully May 15, 2012, at Dionne Commons with her family by her side.
She was born in Brunswick, January 10, 1931, the daughter of the late Irving T. and Ruth E. Little Prince. On July 3, 1951, she married Carroll Groves of Brunswick, where they always made their home.
For most of her adult life, Alice was a homemaker for her husband and their two children. Before staying home full time, she worked at Health Tex and Senter’s Clothing Store in Brunswick. After her children were grown, she did childcare in her home, and later worked several years as a caregiver for local agencies.
Her many hobbies included baking, making puzzles, playing cards, arts and crafts and quilting. Her greatest passion was serving others, especially her immediate family as well as her large extended family. She never missed a family reunion.
Alice was a Sunday School Teacher at the Berean Baptist Church in Brunswick for many years. More recently she was a member of the East Brunswick Baptist Church, where she was active until the time of her death. She was a member of the American Legion Post 202 Auxiliary in Topsham, The Merry Meeters, and for several years she volunteer at the Topsham Fair. She was big fan of the "Back to Basics" Bluegrass Band, following them to many of their events.
Besides her parents, Alice is predeceased by; two sisters, Edith Prince Griffin and Florence Prince Coombs; a niece, Judith Coffin Brillant; and a nephew, Robert Field.
She is survived by: her husband of 60 years, Carroll, of Brunswick; a son, Eugene "Geneo" Groves of Brunswick and his companion Gloria Bouchard of Topsham, Linda Groves Munsey and her husband Randy, of Bath; seven grandchildren; Jennifer Groves and her partner Adam Bailey of Southwest Harbor, Matthew Groves and his partner Nichole Currier, of Brunswick, Wayne Munsey and his wife, Beth, of Brunswick, Mark Munsey and his wife, Renee of Chelsea; Crystal Bouchard Ibiribigbe and her husband Mike of Topsham; Heather and Sonya Bouchard both of Portland; eleven great-grandchildren ; three sister’s; Barbara Knedler, Roberta Farmer and Helene Bisson; one brother, Hartwell Prince; and four generations of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 9th at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall Post 202 Topsham, Maine, followed by a pot luck lunch. Burial will be at a later time at the Togus Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta.
