To the editor:
I agree with Joe Ciarrocca’s May 11 letter (“Symbol of violence”).
Cutting down the fir tree on the Brunswick Mall to accommodate a traffic project was not necessary. It could of stayed there.
The tree and cannon were a landmark for our town. The construction that is going on is a waste of time and money. The construction is confusing and makes it hard to get around.
Why does this town feel like it has to spend money that is not needed? It buys buildings and then doesn’t use them.
How about thinking things over before you make some decisions that are useless?
Town officials decide they want the old Times Record building, the old high school, Longfellow School and other buildings, then they don’t want them.
Some of us are on limited income, but our taxes keep going up to satisfy your spending. I think the town needs to get new people on the Town Council.
Come election day beware. You may not get elected again. Just leave our town the way it was. We like it that way.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
