In observance of National Historic Preservation Month, the Brunswick Village Review Board is sponsoring a photo series in The Times Record highlighting some of Brunswick’s hidden gems — parts of the town’s built environment that are architecturally or historically important, even if their significance is not immediately obvious. Today’s photo is second in the series. Davis Park, which lies tucked away behind Cushing and Pleasant streets, was created in 1981 for use by residents of the downtown area in honor of Nathaniel Davis, in whose honor the Nathaniel Davis Fund was created in 1933. Nathaniel Davis ran a stationery store on Mason Street from 1825 until his death in 1866 and was “a substantial and useful citizen of the town for many years.” Most of the funds for building the park came from the Davis Fund. Sen. George Mitchell spoke at the dedication ceremony. (Courtesy of Emily Swan)
