BATH — Reliever Zach Groat escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning as the Morse High School baseball team downed Belfast, 7-4 in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference baseball action on Tuesday.
Starting pitcher Chris Luedee pitched well for Morse (8-2), giving up two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings. In the sixth, Groat relieved with the bases loaded, but escaped further damage and closed out the seventh for the save.
The Shipbuilders, who are slated to host Medomak Valley today at 4:15 p.m., opened the scoring in the second when Wade Hunt walked, Liam McDonough singled and Hunt came home on an error.
Later in the frame with the bases loaded, a balk brought in the second run, and Cody Hardin followed with a threerun home run for a 5-0 Morse lead.
Luedee helped his own cause with an RBI single in the sixth inning, scoring Aaron Barrett. Belfast fell to 4-7.

The Wolverines scored five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings en route to a Mountain Valley Conference win at Boothbay on Monday.
Jacob Cavaso, Zach Ellison and Caleb Bryant handled the pitching on three hits, five strikeouts and three walks.
At the plate, Ellison and James Andretta each singled twice and drove in a run, while Jason Weatherbee had three RBIs.
Julian Apontie went the distance for the 0-9 Seahawks. He struck out six, walked five and allowed eight hits. Nate Concord doubled.
Wiscasset is 7-4 and slated to host 7-3 Hall-Dale today at 4:30 p.m.

Undefeated Buckfield (9-0) scored six runs in the fifth inning to finish off an East- West Conference win.
Austin Dooley and Julian Williams both singled and doubled to lead the Bucks’ 12- hit attack. Garrett Hannan went the distance with six strikeouts and two walks.
Brian Snedeker slugged a solo home run for 1-8 Richmond, which hosts Valley on Thursday (4 p.m.). Ben Carver singled twice, with Peter Lorbeski and Tyler Harrington both singled.
Kade Strout took the mound loss on 12 hits, two strikeouts and one walk.
