WOOLWICH — A Bath man who swerved to avoid a deer in the road Saturday night instead struck a tree.
Lt. Calvin Temple of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department said Ronald Rittall, 49, of 55 Lincoln St., Bath, was driving a 2001 Ford Escape south on Route 127 when a deer walked into the road. Rittal told police he swerved to avoid the animal and struck a tree. The crash was reported at 9:03 p.m.
The vehicle sustained damage to the front passenger side fender and to the passenger side. Temple said Rittall suffered some lacerations from broken glass but refused medical treatment.
In a separate incident, a group of turkeys appears to have triggered a crash reported Sunday at 2:28 p.m. Temple said Daniel Rollins, 49, driving a 2000 Dodge Durango on Stoney Brook Road in Phippsburg, swerved to avoid a group of turkeys in the roadway, causing the right tire of the vehicle to strike a rock at the side of the roadway.
Rollins was not injured, but the Durango was towed away. No charges were issued.
