WESTBROOK – While his brother Scott, a freshman at University of Maine, was preparing to play Boston College at Hadlock Field, Kyle Heath was busy Tuesday helping his team rally against the Kennebunk Rams.

With the Blue Blazes (8-2) trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Heath smacked an RBI triple to right field, scoring Joe Quinlan and Andrew McCarthy. Westbrook would go on to have a five-run inning to take home a 5-1 win over the Rams, who fell to 2-8 on the year but were coming off wins over Cheverus and Sanford.

“I was really trying to go up there with a good mental approach and not swing at bad pitches,” said Heath. “When I finally got my pitch, I just ripped it to right.”

Heath’s go-ahead RBI triple was only the second hit of the game for the Blue Blazes, and first since a Matt Moody single in the fourth.

“It’s the story of our season,” said Westbrook Coach Greg Souza. “We hit just enough to win, we pitch and we play defense.”

After failing to hold a lead the Rams established in the top of the inning thanks to a Nick Emmons RBI double, Kennebunk starting pitcher Brandon Guevin suddenly became very hittable.

Sam Stauble followed Heath’s triple with an RBI single up the middle. After Moody walked, Collin Joyce roped an RBI double to left to score both Stauble and Moody.

“We preach that you have to play seven innings,” said Souza. “There are 21 outs and you got to use them.”

The Blue Blazes five-run bottom of the sixth was more than enough for Joe Dvilinsky.

Dvilinsky went the distance on Tuesday, giving up only one run while striking out eight and giving up only four hits. His performance, after suffering the loss against the Windham Eagles on Saturday, dropped his ERA to a miniscule 1.24.

“He did a great job today,” said Souza. “He came back and started throwing strikes. It was a good bounce-back win for him.”

Sophomore co-captain Kyle Heath broke the game open for the Blue Blazes with a well-hit shot to deep, deep right-center field, scoring two runs and putting him on third with a triple.
