BRUNSWICK — The Maine Campus Compact, a consortium of 18 colleges and universities in the state, recently honored Bowdoin College’s “Sustainable Bowdoin” project with an annual leadership award.
Sustainable Bowdoin, a collaboration of faculty, students and college staff, focuses on reducing the Brunswick campus’ impact on the environment.
The award applauded the campus’ “commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2020, doubling the campus recycling rate, and incorporating sustainability principles throughout campus,” according to a press release.
Those sustainability principles include establishing an organic garden, installing sustainable energy technologies and geothermal heating and cooling systems.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
