Friends of the Scarborough Marsh 40th anniversary celebration, 5:30-9 p.m., at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. The featured guest speaker will be Patrick Keenan of the Biodiversity Research Institute, with opening remarks from Chandler Woodcock, commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. Letter Writing: Put a Bit of Happiness on Paper, with Christine Richards, 10 a.m.-noon, at the Cancer Community Center, 778 Main St. in South Portland. This guided letter-writing workshop offers tips, suggestions and examples. Manual typewriters and all supplies included. The center offers support programs for any adult impacted by cancer.
Scarborough Land Trust volunteer work party, 2-5 p.m., at the Libby River Farm property. Help restore habitat for the endangered New England cottontail rabbit. Meet at the Camp Ketcha kiosk and parking area off Black Point Road, opposite the Sandpiper condos.
