BRUNSWICK — Brunswick High School jayvee girls lacrosse action included opening season losses to Messalonskee and Gardiner before a win against Thornton Academy.
Brunswick outscored Thornton, 8-6, with four goals by Sydney Anderson and two apiece by Ashlyn Black and Savannah Smith.
Strong defensive play came from Tiernan Ryden, Morgan Bradley, Kelsey Thibeault and Shannah Duffey. Shelby Trufant, Emma McKearney, Emily Youdsnukis and Juliana Rattey added to both defense and strong mid field play. EmmaLeigh Aschbrenner performed well in goal.
Outings against Mt. Ararat and Lewiston proved tough as well, but Brunswick again saw excellent play in their attack game, with goals coming from Anderson, Smith, Angelica Boyle and Sammi Moore in the Mt. Ararat game.
Against Lewiston, Brunswick scored four goals, two by Lindsey Eck and one each by Anderson and Jayne King.
In both games, Brunswick continued to show improvement in defensive and offensive play from Amelia Kipp, Anna Ferdinand, Anna McMillan, Rebecca Bailey, Alex Roderick, Natalie Grant, Chanel Sturniolo and Emily Tait. Sarah Judd anchored the midfield and played strong in the draw game. Aschbrenner played in goal during both games.
