TOPSHAM _Dr. Susan Chadima, a veterinarian from Topsham who traveled to Afghanistan often to care for animals there, will discuss her experiences and introduce Sgt. Pen Farthing, founder of Nowzad Dogs, during a free program at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Topsham Public Library on Foreside Road.
Nowzad Dogs, a nonprofit organization founded in the United Kingdom and expanding to the U.S., rescues stray dogs, cats and donkeys from the war-torn streets of Afghanistan. Nowzad rehabilitates the animals and finds them new homes in safe environments around the world.
Farthing will present a slide show and talk about his efforts on behalf of Afghan animals. This program is free and open to the public.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
