CUMBERLAND — Jonah Normandeau and Mike Leeman combined on a 12-strikeout, fivehitter to lift the Greely High School baseball team to a 4-2 Western Maine Conference victory over Freeport on Monday.

Leeman finished up the contest by striking out five of the six batters he faced.

“The kids hadn’t seen anyone like him before,” said Freeport coach Hank Ogilby.

Freeport allowed three unearned runs (two errors) in the third inning “and that was the difference in the game,” said Ogilby, whose 5-2 charges are scheduled to host Traip Academy on Wednesday.

The Falcons mustered five singles, with Josh Weirich (RBI), Connor Dietrich, Luke LaMagna, Dan Burke and Sawyer Williams each rapping a hit.

Williams went the distance and also allowed five hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

MT. ARARAT 1

The visiting Vikings scored four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh en route to a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win at Topsham.

Brandon Campbell’s two-run double gave 6-1 Oxford Hills a 2- 1 lead. Ty Martin singled twice, and Riley Chickering tossed a two-hitter, with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Torrey Charnock took the loss, tossing 6.2 innings one six hits, six strikeouts and five walks.

Ryan Lathrop and scored the lone Mt. Ararat (2-5) run in the fourth inning. Trent Charnock also singled for the Eagles, who are slated to visit rival Brunswick today at 4 p.m.

VINALHAVEN 12
RICHMOND 10

The visiting Lakers tied the game in the seventh inning and won it in the eight in East-West Conference play in Richmond.

The 1-4 Bobcats, who visit Sacopee Valley on Friday and head to Greenville for a Saturday doubleheader, committed six errors, while three pitchers combined on 13 strikeouts and six walks.

Brian Snedeker singled twice and doubled to lead the Richmond offense. Kade Strout and Gage Myrick each singled two times.

Cody Lyon delivered a grandslam home run for 2-2 Vinalhaven to give the Lakers an 8-7 lead in the fourth inning. Lyon also singled, while teammate Steven Osgood had two hits, including a double.

Pitcher Brian Stanley went the distance on seven strikeouts and two walks.
