BRUNSWICK — Know someone who deserves recognition and has sense of adventure?
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are on the prowl for a “Hometown Hero” to fly along for a pre-show practice flight in a Thunderbird F-16 Fighting Falcon during this year’s Great State of Maine Air Show, which runs from Aug. 24 to 26.
The flight, a collaboration with the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA), is open to “local citizens whose contributions have made a difference in their community,” with a few exceptions.
According to a press release from MRRA, nominations are not open to convicted felons, elected or appointed officials, board directors or others who “have the ability to garner publicity in their own right.”
Nominations should include the “Hometown Hero’s” name with 300 to 500 words highlighting the reasons for the nomination. Entries must be sent by June 8 to MRRA via email at info@greatstateofmaineairshow.us or by mail to 2 Pegasus St., Suite 1, Unit 200, Brunswick, ME 04011. Mail entries should be postmarked by June 8 and addressed to the attention of “Hometown Hero.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
