THE BRUNSWICK Junior High Math Counts team earned a third-place finish at the Math Counts State Final Competition on March 31 in Fairfield. Shane Lyons, back right, finished second overall in individual competition, which qualified him for a spot on the four-person team representing Maine at the national competition in Orlando, Fla., in May. Other team members competing at the state finals were Tobyn Blatt, in front, Cassidy Madore, back left, and Xander Knox. Math Counts is a competition sponsored by professional engineering organizations and businesses. It was developed to interest middle school students in careers related to mathematics.
