As of last fall, the national branch of the campaign announced that more than 100 million U.S. residents had registered as organ and tissue donors in state registries.
A release from Mid Coast Hospital states that close to 112,000 patients are on the national organ transplant waiting list — a demand that the “Donate Life” campaign said is hard to meet through the currently registered donors.
The goal for this year’s campaign is 20 million new registered donors, according to that release, and Mid Coast Hospital is joining the campaign during April — National Donate Life Month — through public information efforts and flying the “Donate Life” flag in front of the hospital.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
