GRAY- NEW GLOUCESTER – It was a busy week for the Gray-New Gloucester Senior Little League softball teams.

The Prom Queens were swept by Yarmouth April 20 in two close games, 7-2 and 5-2, while on April 18 the Prom Queens beat the Divas in both ends of a doubleheader, 7-6 and 8-7.

In the first game April 20, Yarmouth scored five runs in the first two innings, capitalizing on seven walks and a triple to plate the runs. They added a run in the fifth and sixth for insurance.

GNG tried to rally in the seventh when Breanna Bozzuto walked and scored on a hit by Sam Libby, who also scored. Libby led the offense with two hits, followed by singles from Alex Thompson, Sandy Ricardi and Libby Gisel.

In the second game, Yarmouth jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first with a lead-off single who advanced to third and scored on a passed ball. They added another run in the fourth with a lead off double who scored on a wild throw to third on a steal attempt. Yarmouth added three more runs in the fifth on two walks, a single and a triple.

GNG again tried to rally in the seventh. Emily Hotham and Alex Thompson both singled and scored when Maddie Elliott reached base on an error.

GNG out-hit Yarmouth eight to four, but just couldn’t string the hits together. Hotham led GNG with two hits while Thompson, Elliot, Ricardi, Katelyn Tucker, Maria Valente and Erin Doughty each had one.

Defensively, Thompson made an amazing diving catch in left field to rob a sure double.

Tucker pitched two innings and struck out five of the six batters she faced.

On April 18, in the first game, the Divas scored two in the first when Alex Thompson singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Abby Ordway, who came home on a hit by Lindsay Nunley.

The Prom Queens got one in the third when Katelyn Tucker reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced to second and scored o a hit by Maria Valente. They added one run in the fourth when Sandy Ricardi doubled and later scored on a passed ball.

The Divas plated two runs in the fifth when Sam Libby singled and scored on a hit by Thompson who also later scored.

The Prom Queens added three runs in the bottom of the fifth with singles by Valente, Kallie Hutchinson, and Ricardi, along with a double by Tess Wurgler.

The Diva’s tied the score at 5-5 in the sixth when Heather Chapman reached on an error and scored on a crushing triple by Molly Stansfield.

The Prom Queens came right back and added two more runs when Tucker singled and scored on a triple by Maddie Elliott who was plated when Hutchinson singled.

The Divas added one in the seventh when Thompson singled and scored, but stranded the tying run at first to end the game.

In the second game the Prom Queens jumped out to a four-run lead with singles by Hutchinson and Breanna Bozzuto, walk to Taylor Whaley and Chapman reaching base on an error.

The Diva’s scored twice in the bottom half, with a walk to Elliott and a triple by Anna Knapp.

The Prom Queens added one in the second with a lead off bunt by Emily Harlow, who later scored.

In the bottom half, the Divas scored four runs when Libby Gisel reached on an error, Libby singled, Erin Doughty was hit by a pitch, and Elliott and Knapp singled.

The Divas took a 7-5 lead in the fourth when Valente singled and scored on a hit by Knapp.

The Prom Queens stole the game in the seventh, scoring three runs on a single by Ricardi, double by Nunley, Bozzuto reached on an error, Chapman walked, Abby was hit by a pitch, Sydney Litrocapes singled and Hotham walked. The final score was 8-7.
