PORTLAND – An international conservation group held a demonstration Friday to mark the two-year anniversary of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to call attention to the risk of expanded offshore oil drilling.
Oceana unveiled a mock oil spill, with replicas of injured marine wildlife and oil-spill cleanup workers wearing hazmat suits in Monument Square.
Demonstrations showed clean energy alternatives with a model offshore wind farm with dozens of 3-foot-tall spinning turbine replicas.
Oceana says it wants to show not only that expanded offshore oil drilling is bad for the environment but that there are clean energy alternatives.
